The Unforgotten Stories

Jessica Wong
Section 2
Week 7

I found Professor Valverde's article, "Creating Identity, Defining Culture, and Making History from an Art Exhibit: 'Unfinished Story: A Tribute to My Mothers" to be a quite powerful one. It represented the past and present histories of Vietnam merging together as one as Chau explained her art pieces. As many other Vietnamese in today's day and age, Chau did not know much of the history of the Vietnamese War and the toll it took on so many others including her family. As she uncovered these stories, she began to connect with her heritage and was able to express her feelings towards artwork. I enjoyed each story behind her art pieces and feel that it is a pure representation of her life and family. Why is it that so many are vague when describing the effects of the Vietnamese War?
