Section A01
Culture of Crime and the Individual
In the Life
by Ngo and Man with a Heart by Thi both are personal stories of Asian American
men in serving time in prison for crimes they have committed: Ngo is serving a
life sentence for the murder of a rival gang member Thi is serving the last few
years of his sentence for committing various robberies. In both articles, the men admitted that their
current situation is a result of their own actions and in the process realized
they have brought much agony and distress to their immigrant parents. While I strongly agree that everyone must atone
for their own actions regardless of their upbringing, crime and gang activity running
rampant in various different communities is indisputably a large contributor to
individuals becoming involved in criminal activity.
