Intimate Partner Violence Among Asian Immigrant Communities
Studies of different Asian ethnic groups in the United
States shows that a surprisingly percentage of people finding male violence
towards their partners acceptable. This shows that the Asian females in the United
States need extra encouragement for them to walk away from what is believed to
be the social norms in their cultures. One of the interviews even shows that
many people from Asian ethnic groups think that the idea of walking away from
the abusing partner or seeking divorce is not ideal. These kinds of social norms
make women’s lives miserable, can create a never-ending cycle of turning the
abused into an abuser, but at some worse cases can cost lives. I want to know,
what is the local government doing that is culture specific to help victims of
intimate partner violence?
