Section 1
Week 8
In the article, “I Am a Man With a Heart” by Andrew Thi, the
author explains his life story and expressed how blessed he was to be able to
have so many chances after making so many mistakes. He talked about his
experience with the government and almost getting deported. What really
surprised me was that he was able to continue with the criminal acts and thievery
even though he had so many potential to do well. He felt like education was
important and really wanted to learn. I felt like one of the reasons why he was
not able to do well and pursue his career was due to the fact that he was an
Asian American who wanted to have power and money like the white people. He
wanted what the white people had but he pursued it in the wrong way and as a
result was labeled a criminal. After reading the article, I felt like Thi was
disappointed in himself and had many regrets but was grateful to have his
people help him out of deportation. The question is: What could be some reasons
for Asian American criminal acts in America?
