The article I am a man with a heart by Andrew Thi
was something that resonated with me. I have a similar story as Thi, but only committed
misdemeanors. My family came over to the understates from Vietnam to give their
children a better and a chance at education. Growing up my family also needed
government aid and a lot of my brothers and I were trouble makers. Even though
we were intelligent individuals, but were addicted to stealing and committing
petty crimes. I was addicted to stealing from people and stores because my
parents could not afford any luxury. I started stealing in elementary school
and continued to do so during middle school. I did not really care for other
people and just wanted materialistic things. My habit got worse as I got into
high school because this is when I started to slang Mary Jane. Even though I
would do these misdemeanors, I would still get a straight A's in my classes
because school was just too easy for me. I never really got caught, but
eventually stopped because I felt that I would not achieve anything if I
continued to slang and steal. I knew I was going to graduate soon and believed
that college would be way to success.
Question:
Why do people do petty crimes even though they are successful in school?
