Crossroads: Government, Culture and the People

One of the idea mentioned in Caroline Valverde’s article “Crossroads” mentions a culture and community dividing under the pressure of differing political ideals.  This is not only prevalent in the Vietnamese community, but also in other Asian and Asian American communities.  For example, the Chinese community both in America and in their respective countries suffer from the same problems, in which citizens and immigrants from Mainland China and Taiwan, despite both groups begin ethnically Chinese, are sometimes unable to overcome their differences as a result of their different histories and political systems.  As a result, Cross-Strait Relations have been a dominating factor in Chinese politics in the past Thirty Years.
