ASNE Memo on the Patriot Act II
After reading the "ASNE Memo on the Patriot Act
II," and the discussion in class, it made me feel like no one is truly
safe from the powers of the government. This act allows the government to go to
drastic measures to prove people guilty, if there is any slight indication that
someone could be a spy for another country. This includes tapping any
electronics, and searching the suspect's home. It seems like the government
is being paranoid and attacking rather innocent people who are presumed not to
have national patriotism. I do believe in being cautious, but there should be
more evidence present before making assumptions. The ideal of innocent
until proven guilty does not exist in this act, which makes me question why the
government teaches its people to trust them, yet give them no reason to?
