The privacy of the people continues to be ripped away. One enormous loss for privacy was the USA patriot act, which gives the government a huge amount of power and control over our information. The ASNE memo and the CRS report in the readings went over some of the details. The patriot act was part of the USA's response to the 9/11. The issue is complicated - how do we stop terrorism (there is a real threat sometimes as we've seen throughout the past), without the govt. having unlimited power over the people? The response to terrorism by the govt. is frighteningly fast and enormously powerful. In this article, http://nationalreport.net/15-year-old-swatted-domestic-terrorism/ a 15 year old gamer reported an act of terrorism at a rival gamer's house. The rival gamer's house was "Swatted", and a swat team stormed the rivals house and shot the rival's father in the engagement. Thankfully, the 15 year old was put on trial and was sentenced for 25 to life (quite a harsh sentence though in my opinion). This shows how incredibly strong the response is to terrorism.
