The article, "Intimate Partner Violence Among Asian Immigrant Communities,” by Yeon-Shim Lee and Linda Hadeed explains the possible reasons for intimate partner violence. It was really interesting how the article proves to the reader that everything they say was tested and those tests included actual facts from Asian American Women. For instance the study of Korean immigrant families showed that two cultural patterns exist. The first cultural pattern talks about traditional acceptance of intimate partner abuse and the other one about male dominance and female subordination. Later they concluded that Korean American women with more traditional Korean cultural values experienced more abuse by their husbands. On the other hand in the Chinese population, violence is commonly used as a mean of making one’s wife obey. Nonetheless they both agreed that violence is justified when there is sexual infidelity, her nagging, or her refusal to cook or clean. After reading the article i realized that one important pice of information was not really discussed and that is the idea that Domestic Violence is common in the Asian American community. Some of the barriers that women encounter as they try to look for help include “linguistic, cultural, and social barriers” (Lee) which makes them feel insecure about receiving help from professionals. I really liked how throughout the article they carefully analyze the problem and reasons behind it but they don't suggest a solution.

What could be done to help women who don't want to speak up ? How can we put an end to domestic violence and child abuse to help future generations ?
