Teaching Justice

For this final week, I read Boyung Lee’s article “Teaching Justice and Living Peace: Body, Sexuality, and Religious Education in Asian American Communities.” This was an article that I was able to relate with as being an Asian American, sexuality was a taboo subject. When classmates would discuss sexual topics, it was a bit awkward. Some were offended to hear that this was something that they should have known at that age. This lack of importance and avoidance of the subject does not let Asian Americans to embrace it. It creates a negative connotation concerning sexual subjects that lead to homophobia and shame about having a different sexual orientation.  It would be a wonderful idea to have Asian Americans able to integrate new ideas without losing the meaning of why sexual topics were taboo. Is there another way to embrace other sexual identities but not think that they are a disgrace or the fact that being okay with same sex marriage is not being completely different?
