Ribhu Singh Week 9 Tiger Mom

This weeks reading on the efficacy of tiger parenting as exemplified by the example of the stereotypical chinese "tiger mom" raises broader questions about the role of parenting in the scope of educational attainment. As the child of first generation immigrants from India, I was well aware of the emphasis placed on children to succeed in realms of education. I was galvanized into believing that education was the most direct route to prosperity and achievement and presented the most accessible and risk free avenue for attainment. I feel that this mentality is both a boon and a curse as it stifles the sentiments of many who do not fit into the malleable mold of those who readily conform to educational structure. The tiger mom mentality in oftentimes juxtaposed to the stereotypically lax mentality of native born parents who are presented as being indifferent to the school matters of children. I believe that the best avenue is one the treads the median. I am left wondering: what is the best modality for the education of children.
