The Hallyu Wave

In Korean American Youth and Transnational Flows of Popular Culture across the Pacific by Jung-sun Park, I thought it was interesting reading about the influence of Korean popular culture on the Asian American youth, specifically the Korean American youth, and its impact that’s lead to cultural globalization. As a consumer and fan of Korean popular culture itself, I had never realized the importance it had on the Korean American youth community. I know many Korean Americans who aren’t interested in Korean popular culture because it’s too childish or silly for them so to read that Korean popular culture bridges generational relationships or gives a sense of belonging to these Korean American youths who are frustrated with a variety of things from academics to being a “Paiksu” was fascinating. I think the Hallyu wave or Korean popular culture has not only made a huge difference in the lives of Korean American youths but also to many individuals of all races, gender, and background. Its influence is one that is undeniable and I can only assume that the Hallyu Wave will only get more popular and attentive as the years go by.

Question: Will the Hallyu Wave or Korean popular culture die out anytime soon or will it continue to get stronger?
