Week 7

From the reading of this week, Korean American Youth and Transnational Flows of Popular Culture across the Pacific”, the author mentions that the flow of popular culture across borders nationally and globally as it is consumed, dispersed, and created by different generations of the Korean American youth and its relation to the sense of identity and community for Korean Americans in the U.S. Right now, Korean music is very popular around the world, like “Gangnam Style”. In addition, there are more and more connection and communication between Korean and U.S in music. However, the most important and authoritative music awards, Grammy Awards, is still mostly belongs to NA and EU, but not Asians. For Asian-Americans, the way to join into American society is following what the White like to listen, to watch, to sing. Their cultures, like music, have not been accepted by the main American society. Most of new Asian immigrations students stay home after school, and only watch the TV shows and news from their home country.

So the question comes out: does the diversity of cultures really exist in U.S.?
