Week 7 Blog
Growing up as Asian American is
always a challenging feat. Finding a place to “fit in” is the first step
towards finding our identity in America. This week I read, “Korean American
Youth and Transnational Flows of Popular Culture Across the Pacific,” and it
describes how the South Korean culture can still be integrated for Asian
Americans. I always found it fascinating how the technology is improving, but
when I realized how technology is able to help people keep in touch with their
culture amazed me even more. It was sad to read that Korean-Americans are still
trying to figure out how they fit in America. They know they are considered
part of the Model Minority Myth and have felt that it is a barrier from
achieving better things. I found this to be the struggle of many Asian
Americans, and sometimes I’m just never sure of how we can get ourselves out of
this assumption about our culture.
Question: What can we do as a country to make everyone feel
at home?
