In their article "Intimate Partner Violence Among Asian
Immigrant Communities", authors Yeon-Shim Lee and Linda Hadeed observe the
trends of domestic violence and partner abuse particularly amongst Asian
immigrant women. I can relate to the content in this article because I have had
friends who came from homes where the male "leader" (typically the
father) is basically allowed to abuse the wife without consequences. One thing
I found interesting was how the lack of information on IPV's effects on the
Asian immigrant community is due to the lack of research. This lead me to
believe that researchers typically ignore the issues that happen among the
Asian community and therefore have a
lesser understanding of why these events occur. This can play into orientalist
views; researchers may ignore these important issues because they too believe
that abuse and violence are acceptable in their mystified viewpoints of Asians.
Question: Why is there such a lack of research on these
serious issues when it is known that they occur on a daily basis across large
communities?
