The article, "Intimate Partner Violence Among Asian Immigrant Communities", presents the information that among the twenty to twenty five percent of domestic abuse cases in the United States, a large majority of those cases are seen in the Asian American immigrant community. The paper points to the idea behind this high percentage of abuse cases as being a result of social barriers that result in this; such as a language barrier and gender roles being two main reasons.
From reading the article, although it was more of a research paper, there are major issues that are presented and being brushed over instead of presenting results to fix this situation (seeing that the data presented is in fact accurate). One piece of information in particular that was presented and quickly dismissed was the idea that Domestic Violence is a common occurrence in the Asian American immigrant community was due to the fact that these women were less likely to receive institutional assistance because of linguistic, cultural, and social barriers. If this is the case then Domestic Violence institutions that assist battered women must begin programs with people that speak various Asian languages and understand the social norms in order to provide adequate assistance to these women in order to reduce the staggering numbers presented in this paper.

Do you think the data presented is skewed in any way to force people of Asian American immigrant communities suffering these Domestic Violence cases back into the "Model Minority" niche?
