Response to “I am a man with a heart”
Thi is an Asian American emigrated from Cambodia to San
Francisco when he was six. He describes that he fitted the new life well with different
groups of people, not only in school, getting good grades and even in honor
roll in high school, but also in social life. At the same time, his family also
gave him positive influence, especially his father. It is a shock to me that
such a smart and popular teenager could not stop from stealing cars, gambling,
and finally commit a crime. His case made me wonder, how could he have become
involved in such crimes when he had a happy life? Since family got public
assistance until all children found a job and he was raised in a good family. I
would rather think that his sad childhood experience in Thai refugee camp more
or less lead him to have an addiction to crimes. He knew from his heart that
what he did was wrong, but he could not stop himself. At the end, he got
rehabilitation, received education and his family supported him as before.
Therefore, the things that affect people’s lives are not money or their
contribution, but their positive attitude.
Question: Why he could get satisfaction when he broke laws?
