"Love, Money, Prison, Sin, Revenge" by Andrew Lam gave me a brand new perspective on Vietnamese Americans. It seems as though those who were forced to come to America as refugees face this strange dynamic due to the events of the Vietnam War. It really got me thinking about how the Asian American Pacific Islanders really are too broad of a group to lump together. Those who come to America come for so many different reasons whether for work, for a better life, or for refuge from a  war-ruined country. Every single Asian American has a different experience, although there are a lot of similarities in culture and values such as filial piety. This makes me think once again how important it is for us to have ethnic studies in our schools. Without proper knowledge of what Asian Americans experience, its impossible to understand them. Ethnic studies also paves way for Asian Americans to be able to understand themselves. Through seeing similar experiences experienced by other Asian Americans throughout history can provide them with comfort in knowing that they are not alone in their struggles.

Question: Are there other things we can do to help trouble Asian Americans help find a sense of self in such an unforgiving America?
