Blog 8 by Hannah Ng (Section A02)

After reading Darrell Hamamato's article "Servitor of the Empire," I was really shocked by the political issues and conspiracy that he talked about. Personally, I never followed current events because my parents are immigrants and they taught me to believe that everyone is fighting their own battle and to accept the differences that result from our genetics, environment, and experiences. Because no two people are exactly the same and there is no one thing that will satisfy everyone in a room, it is hard to consider and actually satisfy the interests of a whole nation. Therefore I've always felt that politics does not always help every single individual-- we are all in different stages of our lives and dealing with various situations. From reading this article, I feel that politics is a hegemonic tool to keep our society "stable" and to "accept" where we are compared to others. For example, many people believe that we have moved past the period of discrimination and racism; however, perhaps this opinion is possibly formed from what we know and what we hear. It is not possible for every story and circumstance to surface and be known by the whole United States. We are not all-knowing and therefore, we may unknowingly be part of a bigger plan and mission. Is it possible for a society to function without a hidden agenda?
