Week 5 Blog
For the
past couple of weeks, the readings have been about how Asian Americans were
taken advantage of in their education and the workforce. But this week I saw
how rape, drugs, and murder abused Asian Americans physically and mentally. In
the article, “Empire of Death and Plague of Civic Disobedience” there were many
stories of serial killers who murdered Asian Americans because they desired
physical lust and satisfaction of killing someone. Serial killers often have a
motive when they have mass killings. Some have said their motive for killing
Asian Americans was because they were stealing the American Dream from them.
This idea grew very frustrating to me because as I was reading there were many
murders that were lead by U.S. military men who are supposed to be protecting
the people of America. Many Asian Americans aspired to have a better life, but
it quickly ended because no one stopped this massacre from happening.
Question: I am fortunate to live a life where my cultural identity
is not a barrier to my success, but how could we commemorate the people who
suffered through this struggle?
