The article by Andrew Priest, “From Saigon to Baghdad: TheVietnam Syndrome, the Iraq War and American Foreign Policy” points the different ways in which the U.S was affected by the Vietnam War. From 1965 to 1973 the United States was torn apart by a war. It was really interesting how the war was not even on our own continent and yet affected every single American citizen. After reading the article I realized that a lot of damage was done to those who fought in it, for instance “soldiers, sailors and airmen who fought in the war” (Priest) and saw how the “US failed to achieve [their] objectives” (Priest) suffered the most trauma a strong feeling that lead to their death. Other negative impacts include the social aspect, in which people no longer saw the US as invincible. It was tough for the U.S to recover but it did and I think that created a stronger society.

Question: After the Vietnam War how did the US change their military tactics?
