Blog Week 6
The thought of someone constantly watching you or listening
to everything you so is eerie, but not if you don’t know about it. Given a week or two you’ll probably forget
that someone’s looking at your every action.
In response to the readings I have to say that “ASNE Memo on the Patriot
Act” was really hard to understand at times, but it feels similar to “Dole the
USA Patriot Act A Sketch”. They both
explained about government tapping and regulations after September 11,
2001. My thought on this was, “Yes,
security increased and surveillance was increased, but why now?” What is the point in openly admitting and
telling everyone that you will be watch and even if you are not dangerous we
will keep an eye on you. The hard thing
that people hate to admit is that these security measure are NECESSARY to
prevent harm, but the reason everyone is upset about them is that it is a
hassle to follow. The government was
made to provide its citizens with protection and maintain their well-beings,
even if at times they suck at it, there are times where they try their
best. I personally dislike the idea of
being watch, because it reminds me more of the well-known “Dystopia” in the
book “1984” by George Orwell. Society
might have taken a step towards mass surveillance, but how safer have we been
since then? If we haven’t felt any safer
since then is it the governments fault or does it mean that we need to increase
the measure?
