Saigon to Baghdad

American on Foreign Policy
In Andrew Priest's piece, "From Saigon to Baghdad: The Vietnam Syndrome, the Iraq War and American Foreign Policy," an overarching point made in the work was how America has changed due to international relations. In particular, foreign policy has changed greatly in the twenty-first century. A point that I found was indirectly made by the article was that American policy has a tendency to place blame on others immediately. When we suffered the loss of the Vietnam war, change sparked in America. In terms of civil issues and even international policies (supposedly bent on positive change) the American ideals had only lasted momentarily. Shortly after the tragedy of 9/11, American immediately shouted "WAR ON TERROR!" Now despite the efforts made to increase awareness, it seems as though America is still in the dark in regards to equality, discriminatory practices, and stereotypes. Racism is not over in America, and foreign policy still needs work. We need more regulation when it comes to barging in on other countries, within good reason of course, and American definitely need to work on playing nice with the other kids at school...
