America, home of the "free," unless you decide to live outside the binary of the American nationalistic culture know as patriotism. After reading the article by Puar and Rai, there had always been a noticeable trend of white Americans needing to fight, deface cultures, and perpetuate stereotypes in the name of defending democracy.

After a major attack on the homeland (i.e. Pearl Harbor and 9/11), it induces mass hysteria and making inevitable choices that hurt communities. The U.S. responded to the terrors of Pearl Harbor with nothing but terror. Japanese-Americans were pulled out of their homes put into camps solely part of not being recognized as U.S. citizens but existing outside of the white American binary. History repeats itself  as 9/11 occurred but it not affect Muslims but Sikhs as well. Living outside the binary is dangerous and unfortunately, media connects turbans with Bin Laden. False publishing of stereotypes like this resulted in terrorism (i.e. murder of a Sikh man in Chicago and Wisconsin Sikh temple shooting). Events carried out by white men in the name of defending our "great" country.

Question: How can we reverse stereotypes so events of mass hysteria and counter terrorism does not repeat itself?
