In
Monster, Terrorist, Fag: The War on Terrorism, it was interesting to see the
different theories that could accumulate to the creation of terrorists. It would
be reasonable to assume motivations for a terrorist to commit his or her
violent acts would stem from scarring experiences dealing with abusive or witnessing
violence. Both motivations could cause a change in their personality, leading
them to take actions against a form of government for not being able to fulfill
their duties from their own perspectives. From my introduction to international
relations class, it was intellectual to learn terrorism’s intent of violent
actions is to attack bystanders so they lose their hope in the government to
protect them. It was also an awakening to see the different way Americans would
discriminate against individuals they consider enemies of the state. After the
9/11 attack, Americans show their aggressions towards Osama Bin Laden by using
homophobic slanders but these terms would be considered offensive towards the
LGBT community. It is concerning to see that in America, individuals are
encouraged to promote committing violent acts towards their enemy instead of
finding peaceful solutions to solve conflicts.
Question: What are some ways in
which Americans can work together to come up with peaceful solutions in order
to deal with terrorist conflicts?
