Ribhu Singh Blog Post 5 STATE SANCTIONED MURDER

After reading about professor Darrel Hamamoto's piece on the nature of blow back, and about how the US governments state sanctioned violence abroad helps to cultivate violence at home. I can't help but think about the latest US aggression towards the Doctors Without Borders staffed hospital in Afghanistan. As a South Asian American interested in the Geo-Politics of South Asia I can not help but to lament at how the United States is cultivating resentment both at home and abroad with it's actions. If the converse had happened and a political group with divergent interests from that of the US had perpetuated such an egregious act than they would have been vilified. The impunity that US enjoys is both a blessing and a curse as evidenced by the militarization of our society and it's immediate effects on the psyche of our culture. My question is: Is this a sustainable way for our society to run? The US is the only country to experience the phenomenon of school shooting, and defense spending constitutes roughly 20% of our federal expenditure. I find it unsurprising that the proverbial chickens are coming home to roost. I hope that in the future societal views shift towards a less bellicose state of affairs.
