From serial killers to gun violence to overprotective parents

Hamamoto’s “Empire of Death and the Plague of Civic Violence”, was really shocking and eye-opening. Reading about the number of mass murders, and serial killers that went rampant in history and the story of their victims was really just wretched. It was actually quite more graphic than I thought. However, as I kept reading more into the victims and the mindset of these killers, it really made me think about the mass shootings that has been plaguing the US and how future generations of parents are being more protective of their children—which in turn makes for more sheltered children. It will be so hard to let our children be themselves in a world with increasing gun violence and killers, especially in a school setting where you would like to believe that everything is controlled and safe. However, this cascade-like consequence is not a good thing. Even though we are trying our best to prevent harm from coming to our children, it might not be the best alternative in the long run, such as them not being able to communicate in a real life setting. What is really the root behind this mania and how can we stop this, or at least make it safer for our children to be in the real world?
