In “Monster, Terrorist, Fag: The War on Terrorism and the Production of Docile Patriots,” I was surprised in that I was unaware of the heteronormativity used when talking about terrorist activity. The use of heteronormativity in calling terrorist monsters “fags” and “queers” is really insulting to those who are homosexuals. The reading also brought attention to the minds of terrorists and why they are who they are, which was really intriguing in that the public does not really know of this perspective in that they only see what the terrorists do and what they are against. In current events, I can still see how people are discriminated against in being someone of color and how they are assimilating in America and hiding their culture for fear of being targeted as a terrorist which is still unfair to them. I agree with the reading in that the United States has much to learn in doing with terrorism and believe that in learning about it, we should make the public aware also.

Question: What are better ways to inform the public that they shouldn’t deem people as terrorists based on how they look, dress, etc.?
