According to the
article, the two forms of power is “to quarantine and to discipline.” Anyone
that steps out of the notion of what is considered appropriate is immediately
punished. This creates the idea of “Big Brother” watching over everyone to make
sure they stay in line and don’t acct up against societal norms. This idea that
keeps people under check and looking over their shoulders to put them in a
place where they can’t even consider questioning the societal standards they
were forced into. This method essentially works so that the people oppress
themselves by the constant fear of being watched so they don’t consider acting out
in fear of repercussions. Lately there
has been an ongoing debate on whether or not police men should wear a camera on
them and I think that in order to fight back the system that has trained us
into silencing ourselves, we need to fight back and make them take what they’ve
given us. In order to regain our voice, we need to speak up against those
oppressing us and show them that we will fight.
Question: If everyone is watching their own
shoulders and staying in line in fear of being watched, who is watching the
people forcing us into these situations? How can we address the issue of police
cameras in order to prevent hate crimes as well as showing the system that they
don’t control us, we control them?
