In the reading, “ADHD is the best understood as a cultural construct,” the author includes statistics of ADHD children and how our society provides prescription to these children who may possibly be categorized attention deficit. Children can be attention deficit due to many reasons. For example, lack of attention from parents because they are busy working all the time. I have a friend that is diagnose with ADHD in the 3rd grade and I have seen him change over the years. He used to be more social and outgoing and ever since he has been placed on medication, he seemed more depressed and now he lacks common sense and basic knowledge. For example, he does not know what is the right or wrong thing to say at times when we go hangout as if he has Tourettes Syndrome. Which is why I never believed in any mental medication because medication cannot treat an individual’s mental problems, it was never a permanent solution. Also it is a way for pharmaceutical companies to make money off parents who finds their children estranged. Some solutions to ADHD could be spending more family time, be involved in your children’s school work, allow social play time with other children.

Q: Why do people think mental medication can actually help an individual with a lack of research in this field?
