Tien Hao Lee, Week 6 blog, ASA 002.

In this week's article ASNE Memo on the Patriot Act II, i find it extremely interested. The fact that the government would no longer be required to disclose the identity of anyone, even an American citizen, detained in connection with a terror investigation is shocking. In my opinion, Patriot Act II would do more than erode certain fundamental rights of suspects and defendants. It would grand the government power that could be direct at ordinary people. The individual may or may not be guilty, but this the government would be able to act without solid proofs. This threatens the American citizen's freedom greatly. As stated in the article "As a result of police department spying on innocent members of the public involved with political organizing". This showed that the government were able to monitor American citizen's activity using technology, clearly violating the privacy of ordinary people. The Patriot ACT II will be bringing huge controversy to our society, but the public will not be aware of this due to the lack of education and research.  The activist should educate the public to make American citizen know their freedom might be violated.
