Heteronormativity and Terrorism are Not Linked
In Jasbir K. Puar's article, "Monster, Terrorist, Fag: The War on Terrorism
and the Production of Docile Patriots," he discusses the United States' take on the 'war on terrorism' in relation to terrorist action and the reasoning placed upon it based on gender and sexuality within the Islamic nation. Puar mentions how the perception of suicide bombers is based almost solely on their "sexual frustration" and how that will be resolved with many virgins in the after life. In reality, we are missing the political discourse that is the actual reasoning behind the regime supporters. What Puar describes as an act of political loyalty immediately puts a halt to the sexuality discussion. My question is: when is the United States going to take an ethnic studies course and clean up its act? Placing high accusations on other countries and organizations will not solve much.
