Reading: Hamamoto, Empire of Death
Mass murders have plagued the US this year, with almost 300 shootings that has claimed hundreds of lives. At first, hearing about these shootings were too shocking, especially the notable shooting occurring at Sandy Hook. What was the shooter's motives? Why did he do what he did? These questions repeated as more shootings were being reported by the media. These shootings became so routine, I began to lose feeling for these insensitive shootings. After the shooting at an Oregon community college, President Obama seemed fed up with the constant lack of action by Congress to reform gun laws. Hamamoto claimed that the shooters acted on behalf of their economic struggles and their dashed American dream. In this situation, money is truly the root of all evils, but can we necessarily pin all the blame on the shooter? Is the government and NRA at fault for not passing vital gun reforms?
Q: How can we as a society prevent this from happening again? Gun control or a government funded pathway system that leads to find jobs?
