Soya Jung gives a pretty good point in explaining why
Ferguson matters to Asian American. The
riots and protest aren’t just demands for equality in blacks, but for all
oppressed races and colors. Every time I
hear news about injustice or riots happening on the east side I never stop to
question or relate their fight to me.
Oppression is always present and lately it have been more mainstream, no
let me correct myself it has always been mainstream. The fight to stop the oppression has always
been raging, but every generation it seems to take a step back. For some reasons events like the murder of
Mike Brown brings every ounce of oppressed feelings out. As sad as this is event is, we need sad
events like these to occur to make our case stronger and unite mixed race together. There is this strange event that plays in our
head, if not yours then mine, which oppression only exists in Blacks and
white. In media there is a strong understanding
of Blacks vs Whites or Whites vs Blacks.
What I find odd is how media doesn’t cover or seem to cover as often
other racial oppression that happens to the other oppressed colors. I was reminded of a recent event that occur
where a Muslim boy bring a homemade clock to school and was arrested because
people mistaken it for a bomb. I’m
pretty sure it was more of an assumption that because he was a certain race and
color he would only build destructive things.
Sometimes I find it hard to believe that any real change has been made
in racial differences. Oppression
continues to exist because the hardest thing to do is not change the law, but
how to change what one believes.
