Reading Prof. Valverde's Article "Fight the Tower" made me realize that discrimination against Asian Americans is not addressed as often as that against African Americans or other minorities. Asian Americans face racism and discrimination especially in academe or any academic institutions. It is blatantly true that less opportunity is given to Asian Americans when it comes to success in education: such as admissions to institutions, programs, etc. The bigger problem is that people do not take this issue seriously because they assume Asians are already well off, obedient, submissive, and not as pugnacious. Yes, we Asian Americans have been too quiet about this issue. It is important that we show we are not happy with the discrimination we face. We have to be ready to fight for the equality and speak up. We don't want people to think Asians as soft, submissive puppies.
Question: Could we achieve equality by protesting/ fighting the way African Americans have fought during the Civil Rights Movement?
