After reading "Why Ferguson Matters to Asian Americans", I was in awe because I had previously not understood the connection between the events in Ferguson and Asian Americans. The article pointed out that American culture has become binary over the years. Even though the United States was known as the "Great American Melting Pot", it has now drifted towards a "whiteness and blackness". The article was emphasizing the disheartening fact that Asian Americans are often "invisible" when referring to political, economical, and social issues. Asian Americans often have to "dodge crossfire" between the whites and blacks. It is interesting to analyze this concept because Asian Americans occupy both extremes on the economic scale which makes it difficult to lump them into one category. Instead of believing the modern minority myth, we as a society should base our perceptions of others based upon merit and personality, rather than a color.
Many questions come to mind about the intended goals of this nation. However one question can be asked in order to describe our society of today. Should the increase in money, wealth, and power in established institutions affect the way in which we see races and society as a whole?
