In The ‘Four Prisons’ and the moments of Liberation, Omatsu discusses the cultural uprising of Asian Americans throughout the decades. However, the Asian American population is constantly evolving and growing increasingly more diverse. Omatsu states that the greatest strength of the Asian American movement decades ago, was their success in bringing together people from a wide variety of backgrounds and social statuses. She then suggests that the difficulty of unifying the diverse groups within the Asian American population is the primary challenge of the pursuit of expanding democracy. Although I do understand and recognize that unification of the masses is powerful, I believe that the crucial problem the Asian American community faces right now when it comes to political empowerment is the lack of knowledge and understanding of what injustices are still present. I think that only after reaching this understanding, can there be a movement as powerful as that of the 1960s

The Asian American community is receiving more and more attention in the recent years, but much of the issues that affect Asian Americans are still in the shadows, How can consciousness be brought to these issues?
