In the reading, “Nothing is more
important than thinking Dialectically” by Grace Lee Boggs, she told her story
of how it was like growing up in an African- American community. She speaks
about the present of how far Asian- Americans has come since the first waves of
immigrants. She thought she would never see a day that Asian Americans would be
on TV and hold political positions. These are great examples of how Asian
–American are transforming through social, economical, and political ways in
which they improve their mobility in this society. It is also a great example
of American assimilation. She compared our struggles to the communities of
African American by using Dr. King as a reference and also the struggles in
Mexican cities known as the Zapatistas, who occupied cities to fight for what
they believed in. Grace not only expressed Asian-American struggles and
upcoming but also compared them with other minorities as if she wanted to form
some sort of a coalition for minorities to fight together against oppression.
My question about the reading would be “Why does Grace talk
about other minority group as well, is she trying to infer model minority or is
she trying to collect everyone together to be on the same page and fight on the
same side?
