In the article, “Fight
the Tower: A Call to Action for Women of Color in Academia”, written by
Professor Valverde, she give readers an intense and powerful story behind her
struggle to overcome many of the obstacles during her journey towards winning
her tenure battle. She became victim to the ongoing cycles of harassment and
bullying in the corrupt education system, pushing her to her limits as she
tried to win the tenure position. The battle came with some devastating losses,
but she spreads the impactful message of how minorities such as Asian Americans
can be discriminated against. Within her battle for her own life and for what
she believed in, Valverde give readers inspiration and a strong sense of courage
to fight against those who try to bully others due to their gender or race. Even
with everything Valverde went through during her traumatic experience, she
still finds the positive meaning behind it, believing her experience made her
into a stronger person. She encourages individuals to speak up and fight for
the equality they deserve when faced against oppression.
Question: How do you
think minorities can get the equality they deserve when it comes to the
education system?
