Fight the Tower: A Call to Action for Women of Color in Academia

I grew up in a middle-class family and a thriving Asian American community. I had an abundance of resources, a loving family, supportive friends, and many more. I grew up with the mindset that things were going to be handed to me, or I would have it easy throughout school. However, reading this article proved to me a few things: there are others who once thought of these ideas, people face similar obstacles as me, and the gradual understanding of situations around me benefit my growth intellectually and emotionally.

I can resonate with this article, even though I am no scholar. I initially questioned my acceptance into UC Davis, similar to the Imposter Syndrome that the author once had. I do not like speaking about myself, but I met a couple people this year who I am comfortable with to talk about topics that trouble me. I agree that women of color are targets of dismissal, and I also believe that their male counterparts have as much trouble in academia as women.

I strike it as odd when I ponder on how certain colleagues continued to harass the author. Also, why did some authority figures fail to address the issues of presumptions based on ethnicity?
