In article Why We Should Fear University, Inc., the author said his campuses (Purdue University) are becoming simultaneously too safe and too dangerous, with every safe academic space balanced by a space of socially desirable danger out of activists’ reach.
In fact, I never thought a university full of academic building is a bad thing until I read this article and think. I do have many happy with friends in social areas in UC Davis, like the silo, MU. Our school does make me feeling relax. But I still think a college should spend more money on their academic technology improvement. For example, I am a design major. There are only two computer labs, which have Illustrator and Photoshop. But I know our school is trying to make these applications work online for students too. I think a college should balance their academic areas and social environment. Like I really like the new museum in UC Davis.
In this article, it also said that the school do thing to attract potential students and donors. I think this is fair in today's society. School need money to renew their buildings, improve their technology and give students a better environment to school.

So does a college should more focus on academic space or social areas?
