Blog #6: "Dole The USA Patriot Act A Sketch"
The Patriot Act was passed on October 26, 2001 and was in response to the September 11 attacks by Al- Qaeda terrorists. Some of the provisions in the act include allowing the government to tap phones, but only if certain conditions are met and as a last resort, and reading through emails and online exchanges. Although I do disagree that the government should have the power to snoop through people's conversations, in the end, it is for the safety of our country. Some people may have severe reservations about the government being able to listen to very private conversations, but frankly, if people aren't doing anything to break the law, I don't see why they should be so worried. Even though I personally wouldn't enjoy having my phone tapped, it's an issue that I personally don't think merits such an outcry over.
