Response to "I am a man with a heart"
This piece is about a young boy who was both on the honor roll and on parole. He did well in school, but got caught up in bigger and bigger crimes, from petty shoplifting, to grand theft auto, to stealing millions. Thankfully he had family and friends to back him up throughout, and he doesn't have to do more time even for weapon possessions and other past offenses.
I'm glad he's reforming, by whatever means, and I hope he doesn't (didn't) get deported after those two more months at the halfway house. It's interesting how he said that before, he wasn't afraid that he would get deported to Cambodia because it is a communist country, but then the US and Cambodia signed a repatriation agreement. Isn't repatriation supposed to be positive? Helping refugees go back home (if they so choose)? But that agreement is seemingly just being used to deport 'unwanted' people at will.
Question: How often was that repatriation agreement used positively for willing participants?
