Response #9 to “Why Chinese Mothers Are Superior”
What I
found interesting about this article is how strict Amy Chua is with her
daughters. For example, she used coercion and threats to get Lulu to play “The
Little White Donkey” on the piano. What was impressive was how eventually the
tactic, though filled with threats, worked out in the end, as Lulu was able to
play the song correctly and wanted to play it again and again and parents
praised Chua about Lulu after her recital of “The Little White Donkey”. In addition,
I personally agree with Chua that although Western parents’ parenting style is
different than that of Chinese parents, they all want the best for their
children. No matter what type of action a parent takes, it will always benefit
the children in the long run.
Question: What do you think is a main factor that leads to
different parenting styles between Western and Chinese parents?
