Response to "Why I Love my Strict Chinese Mom"

Asian parents are often recognized for using strict parenting methods such as pushing their children to succeed academically, establishing rules that prohibits them from going out, and authorize their children to focus on specific fields of study. Amy Chua received scrutiny following her excerpt "Why Chinese Mothers are Superior" because her parenting methods were considered harsh from a variety of audiences. Her oldest daughter Sophia Chua defended her mother from the criticism she received from her readers, explaining that she appreciated the strict parenting method because it motivated her to succeed in life.

Although Amy Chua appreciates her mother's methods, many children that deal with strict parenting can develop emotional stress and anxiety. Students feel the constant need to please their parents while also develop anxiety over the fear of disappointment. Many Asian students are constantly under pressure while unable to explore the outside world. This can lead to rebellion and cause a strain among parents and their children.

Asian parents use strict methods because they want their children to succeed. Asian immigrant parents endured suffer and tragedy so they migrate to America to provide the best resources for their family. Education is one of the many resources that Asian parents value and want their children to have. Strict methods ensure parents that their children would obey and stay in school, to have a quality education to benefit them in the long run. They want their children to take advantage of the resources that they were limited to in their home country. Sometimes there is miscommunication between parents and children and the deeper meaning behind strict parenting methods.
