Korean Youth

Response to "Korean American Youth and Transnational Flows of Popular Culture across the Pacific"

Korean Americans and native Koreans are shown to influence each other when their different, definite cultures blend. Through ways of speech, actions, and even cuisine, both types of ethnic Korean groups (American and native) blend to almost seem as one type of group rather than two. Because of this, slang, fashion, music, and more affect each other and it is even apparent in other Asian subgroups. For example, Avril Lavigne recently released a song called "Hello Kitty" with a music video featuring several Asian girls much similar to Gwen Stefani's train of Asian back-up dancers all dressed alike. This shows an Asian influence on a very Western music artist.
I've seen this to be true on UCD's college campus. Since the fashion of both Korean groups usually contrast to a point that I can recognize, when one individual dresses like one of the groups but acts like the other one, it's a bit surprising. However, since America is a blend of multiple cultures and there are many different generations of people, it makes sense that these types of blendings are possible.

Question: Which group influences the other one more?
