Response to "Intimate Partner Violence Among Asian Immigrant Communities"

Week 7 response

In the paper "Intimate Partner Violence Among Asian Immigrant Communities," the authors talks about the common intimate abuse phenomenon in the Asian families. They wrote "Asian immigrant women are consistently overrepresented in intimate partner femicide, ... , clearly indicating a heightened risk of severe partner abuse." They also indicated that the this phenomenon did not catch enough attention from researchers because "Asian American women are less likely to report incidences of abuse and least likely to receive preventive care and treatment services." These behaviors are results of a lot of barriers which were listed by the authors.

I am surprised by the statement of the two paragraphs in the paper. The statement is true and the author also correct in trying to find the social and cultural causes of the phenomenon. For example, in my home country, people seldom intervened with the other people's affair, especially those which are about others' families. Even the police hold the same kind of ideas; thus, they always ask the families to negotiate, instead of preventing the violence. As a result, the violence is so popular but the police only sit there and do nothing. The American police is of course different, but because the Asian immigrant women have the similar ideas, they choose to be silent instead of counter attack the unfairness.
