Reading Reflection week 8
In Response to: "Korean American Youth and Transnational Flows of Popular Culture Across the Pacific" by Jung-Sun Park
In his reading, Jung-Sun Park address the idea of globalization and how American culture has exerted its power on other powers both economically and socially. What mainly interests me is the idea of whether or not this should be happening. On one hand maintaining culture is very important and nobody should forget who they are. On the other hand, change is an important issue an whether or not it is liked and is bound to occur.
All in all everyone should be allowed to choose what cultures and practices they follow. Modern day culture supports the idea that people should be more "Americanized", but at the same time this might just be the trend that occurs as a result of living in America. Nobody should forget where they came from and the culture surrounding it, but its hard to go against the flow of the common group. Social pressures influence people to become more Americanized even if they don't consciously know it.
Questions:
1) Should people fight globalization of culture and to what extent?
2) Does globalization of culture change people by a lot?
