Response #8 to "Korean American Youth and Transnational Flows of
Popular Culture Across the Pacific" by Jung-Sun Park
In this article Park talks about globalization and
how the US is bombarded with aspects of Korean culture, the Korean Americans’
consumptions of South Korean popular culture, how it relates to their identities,
and the effect of pop culture on the global culture and market. I do find it interesting
of how Korean pop culture in the US has helped some Korean Americans to have a
better understanding of their home culture and how it helps to develop a closer
relationship between families. This is exemplified by the case of Sandy, who
developed a closer relationship with her mother as they watched Korean dramas
together.
Question: Do you think that Korean Americans would
have a deep understanding of their culture by globalization as much as they
would have if they actually live in their home country? Why?
