Abuse within Asian American households

This week's articles deal with violence and abuse particularly within Asian American households.  This topic doesn't particularly invoke a personal reaction because I had never had to deal with it.I have heard from many friends about abusive husbands.  Much like the article "IPV" states, asian women are uncomfortable with reporting abuse due to a language barrier and also cultural differences.  In China for instance, beating children is legal and not reportable.   On a much more violent topic, prisons that Asian Americans get incarcerated into are equally as bad.  Most prisoners don't have a choice in doing what they did in order to survive and need cultural adaptation, not punishment.
How do we reach these people?  Is it wrong to try to change their views?
